Public space is your playground!

Street art meets movement: A life-sized, interactive board game turning public spaces into active and engaging experiences.

Concept

The Move Game is a life-sized board game where participants become pawns, combining physical play with a digital interactive website. This innovative concept uses movement and education to promote healthy lifestyles for all.

Players scan a QR code and use the interactive website on their smartphones to choose between two modes: Active Education or Active Game. They move along the board autonomously.

After rolling a digital dice, players advance and select a color—each representing a different category. They then complete a physical exercise (with options for all ages and fitness levels) and answer a multiple-choice question. The first to reach the finish line wins—but since everyone has been active, in the end, they all win!

By playing this giant board game, participants not only internalize public health messages more effectively but also engage in physical activity during the process. To make the concept sustainable and accessible, the Move Game will be painted in public spaces. This initiative will involve a co-design process with our partners, utilizing placemaking tools to ensure community engagement.

Methodology

Active Design methodology illustration

Active Design

Active Design is an approach to urban planning and architecture that promotes healthy living by integrating opportunities for physical activity into everyday environments. By intentionally designing parks, sidewalks, plazas, and streets to invite movement, communities can encourage walking, cycling, and play. Active Design helps make healthy choices the easy choices — supporting both physical and mental well-being in daily life.

Placemaking methodology illustration

Placemaking

Placemaking is a collaborative process that transforms public spaces into vibrant, inclusive, and functional areas that reflect the identity of the community. It brings together residents, local stakeholders, and designers to reimagine spaces so they feel safe, welcoming, and meaningful. The goal is not just to create better places — but to strengthen the connection between people and the places they share.

Codesign methodology illustration

Codesign

Co-design actively involves local community members in the planning and creation of public spaces and initiatives. Rather than being passive recipients, locals become partners in shaping the environments they live in. This inclusive approach ensures that the final result responds directly to real needs, values, and everyday experiences — fostering ownership, relevance, and long-term sustainability.

Street Art

Street art is a powerful tool for revitalizing public spaces, adding color, identity, and meaning to the urban landscape. It transforms blank walls and pavements into expressive, engaging works that reflect the local culture and voices. By making spaces more dynamic and visually stimulating, street art contributes to a sense of pride, belonging, and community connection.
